Dempsey “StabRat” Bumpass and I wrote these poems to commemorate the birth of Marty’s Grandson, Wyatt. We three are co-founders of the Yahoo! Chat Club, “Vietnam Veterans Only” and have become friends over the months that we have known each other.

The chronicles continue and life goes on;
a baby’s born, a new grandson.
We still live while our blood flows
in our children’s veins, our sacrifice known.
To see the birth of a generation to come
makes worthwhile all we’ve done.
Who can doubt the worth of pain
when we see the birth of future’s gain?

Dedicated to Sgt Marty and Wyatt
on the occasion of the birth of Sarge’s Grandson, Wyatt
We suffer the pain and remember the war
We search for an answer for that which we abhor.
We struggle through life that passes so fast
Looking for peace that we hope will last.
When all seems dark and the future is unclear
We always grasp for that which we hold dear.
Did we do the right thing or make a mistake?
Our life and sanity are certainly at stake.
As we fight our feelings and deal with strife
God feels our pain and gives us new life.
His awesome power through our body does run
We praise our Savior for Sarge’s Grandson.
Sarge will never be a forgotten Vet
Through his new Grandson his legacy is set.
We love you Sarge and wish you the best
You overcame war and passed each test.
When you look at your Grandson and feel the pride
Know in your heart that we stand by your side.
Congratulations!

Sarge,
Thank you for sharing this wonderful event with us.
I feel like I’m a new Grandpaw too.
I’m proud of you and your Grandson.
Next time you pick him up, give him a hug and kiss from all of us.
