When the pilgrims arrived in this beautiful land
they were ill equipped and not very well organized
so they prayed to God for his loving guiding hand

It was the mighty Indians who taught them to farm;
showed them how to plant, tend, and reap the crop.
For many years no one on either side came to harm.

On the anniversary that the pilgrims came ashore
Indians and pilgrims planned a mighty feast
giving thanks to God for food and clothes and more.

Since that historical date in our Nation’s past
families get together to feast and reflect;
giving thanks to God for what we have amassed

Sometime long ago we forgot the meaning of the day;
we feast, party, watch football well into night,
but do we offer thanks to God or take time to pray?

Do we give thanks for our families and friends
as we take this day for granted?
Well, I do thank God for family and those not akin;

I know true friendship will last until the very end.
So that is why Americans celebrate this way.

We have lost sight of what’s important in life
but I look forward for a Friend to Make MY Day.
