If I Would you despise me, oh dear friends,
On whom my faith so much depends,
If I retreated from your view,
To protest loudly with the few,
Who loyal to their sound beliefs,
Think wrong the allied powerful chiefs?
Would you dismiss me for my claim,
And soundly criticise my name,
And ridicule all the verse I write,
No matter what I wrote about?
I’d like to think it would be true,
That such things you’d never do,
That in your hearts your truth would know,
This man’s a friend and not a foe.©Colin F. Jones
19 March 2003If You
I may well disagree with you
And even rail your point of view
But if you were to retreat from here
And decide to protest over there
Then your absence would be sorely felt
But would not cause friendship to melt.
And your words would e’er remain sublime
Because you are a friend of mine.
So do that which in your heart you know
Is the proper way to melt the snow.
Honest disagreements create the stage
Where honest decisions can be made
And if, perchance, you and I agree
I will not pause to stand with thee.©Anthony W. Pahl
