Buahrangers Revetment: Poety and Stories by Vietnam Veteran, Anthony W. Pahl and friends

He sits, this enemy of old and paints
with bold strokes and a steadiness
that belies his physical infirmity.
A surprise and delight as my eyes
are drawn to the image depicted
on his canvas; to the reality
created with paint, not with war.

And I wonder if we…
(both or either)
would be capable of our words and images
if we were once, so long ago, not enemies…
