Buahrangers Revetment: Poety and Stories by Vietnam Veteran, Anthony W. Pahl and friends

Dark shadow in dusk
Not clear in jungle wisps of light
Filtering through the canopy unbidden from above
And the midday gloom settled heavy on greens and lives of jungle men
who found the light of mateship deep inside the mind
But never thought or spoke out loud
In case their mate soon died.

Dark shadows in the mind
Not clear in safety’s glare of light
Filtered through the mists of time unbidden from inside.
And the evening light settles heavily on the souls of old and bitter boys
who lost the gift of mateship because fear was so sublime
Ever sensing the invisible silent scars
because their mates had died!
