A SOLDIER’S HANDS
Nuthin’ special ’bout a soldier’s hands
they keep account and till the land
They handle softly the ones they love
and fight and build and wear suede gloves.
They clench to protect the weak and poor,
opening to give those with none some more.
Children grasp and hold them tight.
But they hold a rifle to ensure all is right.©Anthony W. Pahl

Tony that is one of the most beautiful and powerful poems I have ever read.
As I read it a picture came to mind, a woman holding a newborn baby, a soldier cradling the child’s head in his then letting go to pick up his rifle and kit and walking away. To me there is no picture more heartbreaking than that.Thank you.
