Buahrangers Revetment: Poety and Stories by Vietnam Veteran, Anthony W. Pahl and friends

Look back one day on the words you wrote
during the learning age of love
and you will come to recognize
God’s help from up above.

Don’t try too hard to understand
why love seems to pass you by.
Don’t try too hard to give too much:
sometimes ‘give’ is seen as ‘buy’.

“If it doesn’t hurt, it ain’t good for ya.”
is such a pessimistic view.
What really hurts is no response;
love IS good for you.

Bushranger's Revetment - Poetry and Stories by Vietnam Veteran, Anthony W. (Bushranger) Pahl and friends

In an attempt to console a young lad who had just been jilted by his girlfriend, I wrote this short poem in response to a sad poem called “Rejection” that he had written. In his sadness, he was trying to convince himself that hurt is a consequence of all things good.
