Nancy and Richard Preston : Bushranger's Revetment - Poetry and Stories by Vietnam Veteran, Anthony W. (Bushranger) Pahl and friends

Dear Lord I know you’re listening in
and you can hear our cries for grace
and if you wouldn’t mind too much
send some peace to Preston’s place
You see, Dear Lord, they’re more than friends
They’re family to us all
and when they hurt, well, we hurt too
one hurt and we all fall.

Now Nan is not doing so good,
and she’s in a lot of pain;
an infection has laid her low
it’s her kidneys stones again.
And our mate Boon is hanging tough
and I know he’s at the edge.
Give him strength, if you don’t mind,
to find the safety ledge.
‘Cos Boon and Nan deserve some time
to catch a breath or two
You know the things they’ve done for us
and You know how they love You.

We do a fair bit of prayin’
in Boon’s Poetic Club
and there’s one fair dinkum reason -
it’s because we know Your love.
So thank you God for listening in
and I hope that You’ll respond
but in any case I hope that You
will bless the friends we’ve found.

Now Boon my friend, hang in there mate
help is on the way.
you mightn’t recognise it
and when it arrives you might just say,
“What is next? What’s going on?
What more can we endure?”
But God and we are with you mate
of that you can be bloody sure.
